Why This Exists
Small food businesses (restaurants, bakeries, caterers, food manufacturers) are required by FDA/USDA regulations to have a HACCP plan — but creating one costs $1,500–5,000 with a consultant or $84–250/month with SaaS tools like FoodDocs. The core workflow is document generation that rarely changes after initial creation. This plugin generates a complete, FDA/informed by USDA guidelines HACCP plan package in under 2 hours, saving thousands of dollars for operations that only need the plan once a year.
Quick Start
- Install the plugin and run
/haccp:haccp-setup— creates workspace, validates python-docx - Run
/haccp:haccp-intake— describe your product and production process conversationally - Run
/haccp:haccp-analyze— Claude identifies biological, chemical, and physical hazards - Run
/haccp:haccp-ccps— Critical Control Points identified with regulatory critical limits - Run
/haccp:haccp-generate+/haccp:haccp-sops— complete HACCP plan + SOPs + monitoring logs generated
Or run the full pipeline in one command: /haccp:haccp-pipeline
Commands
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/haccp:haccp-setup |
Initialize workspace, validate dependencies, save business config |
/haccp:haccp-intake |
Conversational interview to capture food process profile |
/haccp:haccp-analyze |
Hazard analysis — biological, chemical, physical per production step |
/haccp:haccp-ccps |

/haccp:haccp-pipeline |
Run full pipeline (stages 1–5) with checkpoint/resume |
/haccp:haccp-status |
Show pipeline progress and file locations |
How It Works
Process profile → Hazard analysis (FDA/USDA methodology) → CCP identification (4-question decision tree) → HACCP Plan DOCX + SOPs DOCX + Monitoring Logs DOCX. All files saved locally to your workspace folder. Annual review updates the plan without a subscription.

Estimated Cost per Use
Disclaimer: Token estimates are approximate and based on typical usage patterns measured from skill prompt sizes. Actual costs vary with input data size, conversation length, and complexity. Estimates use Claude Sonnet 4.6 pricing ($3/1M input, $15/1M output). Cowork and Claude Desktop subscription users (Pro/Max/Team) are not charged per-token — these estimates apply only to direct Anthropic API usage. Running stages individually in fresh sessions uses fewer input tokens than running the full pipeline sequentially, because pipeline mode accumulates conversation history across stages.
Per skill (run individually in a fresh session):
| Stage | Skill Prompt | User Input | Total Input | Output | Est. Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| haccp-review | ~4.7K | ~800 | ~9.0K | ~6.0K | ~$0.12 |
| haccp-ccps | ~4.4K | ~800 | ~8.8K | ~4.4K | ~$0.09 |
| haccp-sops | ~4.4K | ~800 | ~8.7K | ~4.4K | ~$0.09 |
| haccp-analyze | ~5.1K | ~800 | ~9.4K | ~5.1K | ~$0.10 |
| haccp-intake | ~3.2K | ~800 | ~7.4K | ~3.2K | ~$0.07 |
| haccp-generate | ~6.0K | ~800 | ~10.3K | ~6.0K | ~$0.12 |
| Standalone total | ~53.5K | ~29.2K | ~$0.60 |
Full pipeline (all stages in one session — context accumulates):
| Stage | Base Input | + History | Total Input | Output | Est. Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| haccp-review | ~9.3K | 0 | ~9.3K | ~6.0K | ~$0.12 |
| haccp-ccps | ~9.0K | ~6.8K | ~15.8K | ~4.4K | ~$0.11 |
| haccp-sops | ~9.0K | ~12.0K | ~21.1K | ~4.4K | ~$0.13 |
| haccp-analyze | ~9.7K | ~17.3K | ~27.0K | ~5.1K | ~$0.16 |
| haccp-intake | ~7.8K | ~23.2K | ~31.0K | ~3.2K | ~$0.14 |
| haccp-generate | ~10.6K | ~27.2K | ~37.8K | ~6.0K | ~$0.20 |
| Pipeline total | ~141.9K | ~29.2K | ~$0.86 |
Running the full pipeline once typically costs $0.60–$1.12 in API tokens (Claude Sonnet 4.6).
Known Limitations & Workarounds
This is a Claude Cowork plugin, not a traditional SaaS application. It has architectural constraints you should know about before adopting it.
| Limitation | Impact | Workaround |
|---|---|---|
| No real-time mobile monitoring | Cannot replace FoodDocs' daily temperature logging app | Use plugin's printable monitoring log templates; or use SafetyCulture free tier for digital logging |
| No regulatory update notifications | Hazard library may become stale if FDA/USDA guidance changes | Annual review prompt instructs user to check FDA/USDA websites; generation date noted on all outputs |
| No e-signatures or CFR Part 11 | Documents cannot serve as electronically signed records for facilities requiring 21 CFR Part 11 | Print and wet-sign; only applies to large manufacturers (not target SMB audience) |
| No persistent cloud database | Previous plans stored as local files, not searchable cloud DB | Plugin creates archive/ folder with date-stamped versions; review skill loads previous version |
| Session-based operation | Cannot send reminders for annual review deadlines | Plugin generates next-review-due date in output; user adds calendar reminder |
Context & Performance Guide
Session management: Claude's context window is shared across the full pipeline session. For best results, run the full pipeline in a fresh session. If you've been chatting extensively, start a new session before running /haccp:haccp-pipeline.
Data volume: Tested with products having up to 15 production steps and 20 ingredients. For products with more complex processes, run each stage individually rather than using the pipeline command.
Tips for best results:
- Describe your production process in detail during intake — the more specific you are, the more accurate the hazard analysis
- Use
/haccp:haccp-statusto check where you are if you need to continue across sessions - Run each stage separately if you want to review and refine outputs before proceeding
- Have your food safety professional review the DRAFT documents before finalizing
Degradation signals: If responses become shorter or skip sections, start a new session and re-run the current stage. The plugin saves state between stages.
Requirements
- Claude Desktop with Cowork mode
